The fifth edition of the highly admired Pakistan Super League got underway with a fantastic game between defending champions Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United. After losing the toss, Islamabad was invited to bat first and they scored 168 runs. However, Quetta matched their quality to chase the total with 9 balls to spare.
It is important to mention that we witnessed a thrilling start to the game as Gladiators picked a wicket off the first ball of the match. A loopy delivery of Mohammad Nawaz met with a double-minded push of Colin Munro only to handle an easy catch to the bowler. This was the third instance of Quetta picking a wicket of the first ball of the game. No other team has done it more than once.
On a crazy night, Karachi’s crowd was thrilled with a blistering game where a batting pitch was dished out. Dawid Malan fireworks were subdued by the belligerence of Azam Khan and Ben Cutting to see Quetta starting their title defense in an iconic manner.
