The one-off All-Stars match that was expected to take place ahead of the commencement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has now been shifted to the end of the competition. This has happened after franchises expressed concerns over the release of players for the game ahead of the new IPL season.
The venue for the match is yet to be decided as it was earlier planned to be held in the newly constructed Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, which boasts a capacity in excess of 100,000 people. Another reason explaining the logic behind the franchises’ reluctance is the fact that the IPL teams wanted their foreign players to be a part of promotional activities before the start of the tournament.
"It will be after the tournament. We will see the performance of the players and on that basis the two teams will be selected,” IPL Governing Council chairman Brijesh Patel told a major cricketing publication.
