The opening match of the fifth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) was set alight by tremendous pyrotechnics from the bat of young Azam Khan. The bulky right-handed batsman let his bat do the talking amidst the relentless backlash.
Azam, son of the Gladiators head coach Moin Khan, had attracted a lot of criticism for his selection in the draft. It was deemed as a sign of blatant nepotism but he has repaid the faith bestowed on him by the selectors, by smacking a plethora of hits in his match-winning knock.
Playing just the second T20 match of his career, Azam launched spectacular strokes that consistently reached the boundary fence. The 21-year-old struck three sixes and five fours in his brilliant contribution of 59 from 33 deliveries.
