Ben Cutting emerged as Quetta Gladiators’ star performer in their victory over Islamabad United in the first match of the fifth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). His all-round prowess proved to be too much for the two-time PSL champions, who crashed to a three-wicket defeat.
Cutting had the honours of hitting the winning runs as he dished out an emphatic six to take his team over the line in the 19th over of Gladiators’ chase. Cutting’s brief and unbeaten cameo was glittered by two maximums and one boundary as he hit 22 off 12 balls.
Earlier in the contest, Cutting deceived Islamabad’s batsmen with his clever change of pace to scalp three important wickets. He stemmed the flow of runs from United by pitching the ball in the right areas and getting the breakthroughs at frequent intervals. He finished with figures of 3/31 including the prized scalp of Dawid Malan.
