It came as a surprise to everyone when all-rounder Hardik Pandya was promoted up the batting order in 3rd and 4th ODI’s. Known more as a dasher, who is always willing to take risks, the move turned out to be a master-stroke as the 23-year-old churned up a memorable 78, helping his side to victory in the third game.
The brains behind this move to elevate Pandya to no.4, head coach Ravi Shastri has showered tremendous praise on the individual. Appreciating his remarkable power hitting abilities, Shastri said Pandya possessed the skill to clear any ground in the world.
Likening the all-rounder to Yuvraj Singh, Shastri said, “He (Hardik) is a dangerous guy. He can be a floater in the batting order - tremendous striker of the ball, especially when he hits spinners. I have not seen too many players strike against spinners like that. Yuvraj Singh in his hey days may be. This guy can clear any ground in the world, be it second ball, third ball. It's the exuberance of youth.”
