Quetta Gladiators put up a great show again in front of a euphoric crowd at the Rawalpindi cricket stadium on Thursday night. It was the Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting who kept his cool and got his side home in a nail-biting thriller. Batting first, Islamabad United was in mood to entertain the home crowd with some blistering shot making.
But in the pursuit of extravagant runs, the home side lost the top-order a bit early in the piece. Captain Shadab Khan and Colin Ingram took the responsibility on their shoulders and carried the innings for the United’s. Slight contributions from the middle-order helped Islamabad in reaching the total of 187 for the loss of 7 wickets.
In reply, Quetta lost Shane Watson and Ahmed Shehzad without much score on the board. On the other hand, Jason Roy proved his class once again as he smashed the United’s bowlers all over the park. Gladiators’ skipper Sarfraz Ahmad continued his good form while chasing (now averages almost 50 in the history of PSL in chasing cause) and scored a well-made 33 off 22 balls.
Islamabad United started to grab the game in the latter half of the innings when they dismissed Quetta’s skipper and Jason Roy but Ben Cutting and Mohammad Nawaz had other plans. Courtesy 17 balls 42 from Cutting and Nawaz’s 25 runs, Quetta pulled off a brilliant victory with just 2 balls remaining. With 11 required off the last over, Cutting smashed Amad Butt for 2 gigantic sixes and finished off things in style.
