India have been consistently delivering dominant performances in the ongoing women’s T20 World Cup in Australia. Much of their excellence on the field is down to the belligerent batting from teenage sensation Shafali Verma.
She set the tone for India’s successful chase once again in their final group stage encounter against Sri Lanka. She belted a boundary off the first ball and survived a scare in the second over when the fielder at short cover spilled a catch.
The 16-year-old produced a dazzling batting display by managing to lift her team to an imposing total of 49/1 by the end of the Powerplay. However, she fell three runs short of her maiden World Cup half-century when she was run out but did enough to cap off another victory for India.
