As a result of these defeats, India’s hold on the No. 1 ranking in Test matches has received a massive dent and they now trail second-placed New Zealand by a small tally of six points. Kane Williamson’s New Zealand had come into the series ranked fourth but have now made significant gains on bowler-friendly pitches.
Their success is largely down to the terrific form of the experienced campaigner Tim Southee and the stunning heroics of debutant Kyle Jamieson. India’s batsmen were exposed for their technical deficiencies against quality seam bowling.
