The Proteas, after being nailed down by Australia in the T20I series, came back strongly and clinched the ODI series and marked the first ever series win under Mark Boucher’s reign. South Africa outplayed Australia in the 2nd ODI at Bloemfontein by completing the highest successful run chase at the venue.
Thanks to Janneman Malan’s century and Lungi Ngidi’s 6-fer, South Africa won the game comprehensively at the end. Batting first, Australia managed to put a total of 271 on the board courtesy half-centuries from Aaron Finch and D’Arcy Short. On a slow wicket it looked a good enough total to be defended but as the fate dragged the ill-starred, Australian bowlers could not stop the Proteas batsmen.
Quinton de Kock’s duck did not halt the progress of South African batting line-up, Malan, Jon-Jon Smuts, Heinrich Klaasen, and David Miller made sure that South Africa crosses the finishing line. The home team now has an inaccessible lead in the 3-0 match ODI series, with the final game to be played at Potchefstroom.
