The home of cricket in Australia, Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is not a stranger to massive crowds. Regardless of the discriminations of teams and gender, the crowd at the biggest stadium in the cricket world has always been welcoming.
Sunday 8th March marked another record-breaking day in the history of MCG as it hosted a whopping number of people on the international women’s day to watch an enthralling final between Indian women cricket team and Australian women cricket team. The two of the most closely-contested teams walked on to the field for the final time in the ICC T20 Women Cricket World Cup in front of 90 thousand people cheering in the aisles for them.
The magic number of 90,185 was recorded as the highest number of people watching the women’s game. While the women across the world marched in search of their rights, the two cricket teams battled on the 22-yards for an illustrious trophy. However, the things did not end well for the Indian women cricket team as the home side over-powered India to become the Queens of the cricket world. Nevertheless, it was the victory of women’s game and their sport on the international women’s day with millions of people backing them up with their support.
