Former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar has expressed his wish to see the addition of a new team in the highly valued Pakistan Super League (PSL). The cricketer turned commentator is of the view that a team called ‘Rawalpindi Express’ needs to be inducted to swell the charm of the tournament.
He feels that having Rawalpindi’s team would create a fantastic rivalry with Islamabad, which would be good for the growth of the 20-over competition. Akhtar’s comments came after former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi urged the authorities to include new teams. While Shoaib wants a team representing Rawalpindi, Afridi is of the view that teams from Punjab, Sindh and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) should make their PSL debuts.
“I strongly believe that a team from Rawalpindi needs to be launched which should be named Rawalpindi Express. I think we should campaign for this because a clash between Rawalpindi and Islamabad will be really exciting. I would definitely back Rawalpindi over Islamabad,” said by the 44-year old.
