Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Perera is set to be compensated for his 2015-2016 doping suspension, imposed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The settlement amount is yet to be decided but Perera and his legal team are pushing for a hefty sum of money.
Perera was provisionally banned by the ICC in December 2015 and faced the prospect of a four-year suspension after failing a drug test conducted in October of that year. However, the ICC later admitted their mistake and overturned the sanction by claiming the results obtained were not sustainable.
In the interim period, Perera missed out on representing Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup and the T20 Asia Cup prior to the showpiece event. The compensation for losses incurred to Perera and the damage to his reputation in the aftermath of the suspension are now being sought by his lawyers.
