Another nail bitter thriller was witnessed by a jam-packed crowd at the Gadaffi Stadium Lahore on Tuesday night as Lahore Qalandars over-powered Peshawar Zalmi in an intense encounter. With 5 runs left off the last two balls, South African all-rounder David Wiese smacked Carlos Brathwaite over his head for a gigantic six and finished things off in style.
Batting first, Peshawar Zalmi had a shaky start when they lost 3 wickets within the powerplay. The young Haider Ali and experienced Shoaib Malik banded together and helped their team to a challenging total of 187. Haider played a classy knock of 69 off just 43 balls while Malik scored 62 off just 43 balls. Shaheen Shah Afridi once again delivered with the ball and picked up 3 wickets for his side.
In reply, Lahore was off to a steady start with captain Sohail Akhtar and Fakhar Zaman playing their part. Fakhar went on to score his maiden fifty of PSL 5 and later Chris Lynn’s fireworks set up the stage for Lahore to conquer the game. Peshawar made a good comeback at the latter half of the innings when they dismissed Lynn, Mohammad Hafeez, and Ben Dunk.
With 24 runs required off the last 2 overs, Samit Patel and David Wiese were present on the crease to guide Lahore’s ship.
