The remaining Pakistan Super League (PSL) games in Karachi will be held in front of empty stands at the National Stadium as a precautionary measure in response to the coronavirus outbreak. The decision will be enforced for the subsequent four clashes in Karachi.
The drastic step is in line with various cricketing authorities being forced to postpone events and competitions around the world. A total of 21 cases of the coronavirus have been reported in Pakistan with the majority of them being confirmed in Karachi. This safety measure will not affect accredited commercial partners, media personnel and immediate families of players.
“Health and safety is paramount and takes precedence over cricket. The PCB takes the health and safety of its players, spectators, officials, media, service providers and security personnel very seriously,” PCB CEO Wasim Khan said.
“Following the advisory from the Government of Sindh this evening, the PCB has taken this precautionary and preemptive measure which will result in matches taking place in front of empty stadium,” he added.
