Islamabad United’s squad has been heavily depleted after the decision of four of its overseas players to
pull out of the ongoing edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) owing to coronavirus fears. Dale
Steyn, Colin Munro, Dawid Malan and Luke Ronchi will take no further part in the tournament.
The exodus of these four players comes in the aftermath of 10 players belonging to various franchises
leaving the country to respective home nations. The PSL is still continuing despite these players
travelling back to the countries but the six-team competition will now take place behind closed doors
and semi-finals will be held instead of playoffs.
Ronchi and Munro’s absence from the side will severely impact Islamabad as the team management will
be forced to alter their opening combination. Meanwhile, Steyn’s forced exclusion deprives the pace
bowling department of a wealth of experience.
