Multan Sultans pulled off a miraculous three-run win over Peshawar Zalmi at the National Stadium, Karachi. Zalmi looked well on course to chase down the modest 155-run target but imploded rather spectacularly in the final five overs of the game.
Rookie paceman Ali Shafiq was at the center of Multan’s stunning victory as he delivered a tight spell of bowling of 2/31 to dry up the flow of runs from the opposition. Shafiq got the prized scalps of Shoaib Malik and Haider Ali to dent Zalmi’s run-chase.
Moreover, his final over was filled with drama as he was given the task of defending 15 runs from six deliveries. Unable to control the ball, Shafiq was guilty of bowling two beamers in a row before recouping his confidence and holding his nerve to edge his side ahead of the finishing line.
