With the core of Islamabad’s foreign players travelling back to home, it was only the inevitable getting delayed. The quality gap between the two teams swelled and it was only a matter of time before Karachi books a play-offs berth. However, it didn’t happen before the two-time Pakistan Super League (PSL) champions giving it a proper fight.
In the 28th game of the 20-over tournament, Karachi won the toss and decided to bowl first on a slow track. Islamabad tried hard but the quality of Kings’ bowling subdued them. As a result, United was able to muster only 136 runs, which was probably 15 to 20 runs short of a competitive target on this patch.
Nevertheless, Islamabad fought valiantly and gave it their all. Despite the blitz of Sharjeel Khan, Islamabad got back in the game as Cameron Delport and Imad Wasim collectively consumed 58 balls of the innings while contributing only 37 runs to the score. Fortunately, Umaid Asif’s cameo of 13 runs off 6 balls aided Karachi in avoiding a major upset. As a result, Islamabad got eliminated from the T20 carnival.
