With the removal of Sarfaraz Ahmed as Pakistan’s leader because of his prolonged rough patch, Pakistan’s ODI leadership framework attracted a lot of attention. The wicket-keeper batsman was found struggling in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament before recording ordinary outings in the home series against Sri Lanka.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sacked him from captaincy in all the three forms of the game by announcing Azhar Ali and Babar Azam as the new Test and T20I skippers respectively. However, with Pakistan not having any immediate ODI series, the cricket board refrained from naming the ODI captain.
Nevertheless, the governing body of Pakistan cricket will have to make a decision soon and the former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif sees the prolific batsman Babar Azam getting the honor. The cricketer turned expert feels that Babar has the ingredients to excel as the pack of the leader. Moreover, Babar’s individual performance has been of top quality. The 25-year old is already leading the T20 side and now looks set to become the skipper of the 50-over cricket.
