The United States of America (USA) is emerging as a possible contender for hosting a major global cricketing event in the next cycle of hosting rights. The USA is currently in advanced talks with the West Indies to bid to co-host the T20 World Cup during the international cycle between 2023-2031.
According to the schedule stipulated by the International Cricket Council (ICC), there are two T20 World Cups in this period, out of which the USA and West Indies are mulling over grabbing the hosting rights of one showpiece tournament.
USA is currently an Associate nation in the sport but have hosted some of West Indies’ home games in the recent past including several encounters of the Caribbean Premier League as well. Their gradual introduction into the sphere of hosting such a big cricketing competition would have significant impacts on the popularity of the sport in the country.
