The newly conceptualized World Test Championship features nine top-ranked teams in Tests facing off with each other over a two-period cycle before a final between the two teams at the top of the table.
However, the WTC schedule does not include a bilateral series between archrivals Pakistan and India due to the ongoing fragile political relations amongst the neighbouring states. Pakistan bowling coach Waqar Younis has thus criticized the ICC for no India-Pakistan fixtures, which create a lot of hype among fans.
“I know it is a difficult situation between Pakistan and India even at government to government level but I think the ICC needed to play a more proactive role in this championship,” Waqar said in an interview with a prominent Pakistan journalist.
“The ICC should have intervened and done something because to me having a test championship without Pakistan and India Test matches makes no sense,” he added.
