South Africa’s spin resources have taken a hit with the departure of Dane Piedt, who has moved to the USA in hopes of representing them on the international stage. The 30-year-old off-spinner has officially ended his career with the Proteas by signing a contract in the Minor League T20 tournament in the USA.
He now intends to meet the eligibility criteria in time to make it to the USA national team as he hopes to play the ICC World Cup for them. Piedt was never given a consistent run in the South African team as he only got nine Tests with the latest appearance coming against India.
"I just signed the deal this morning but no-one really knows when I will be able to travel. It was an opportunity I just couldn't pass up, financially and for lifestyle reasons, but it was still a tough decision to make," he stated.
