Karachi Kings head coach Dean Jones has expressed disappointment over the selection criteria in Pakistan’s domestic franchises citing the lack of opportunities given to left-arm spinner Umer Khan thus far.
The young spinner rose to prominence in the 2019 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) but has played only three first-class matches and 15 List A games since his debut in January 2016. Jones feels Umer has the potential to become a top spinner, though he requires more faith from the selectors.
“We [Karachi Kings] have got a young boy Umer Khan and we know he is a sensational kid. He did not even get half the games in first-class cricket which is ridiculous stuff. The kid is a potential superstar and he will probably be in my 15-16 players [squad] to go for the T20 World Cup,” Jones said.
“I think the ideas and philosophy of Misbah and his advisers is different from me and also different to a lot of teams around the world,” he added.
