Board of control of cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that they are monitoring the situation in India closely while the public wait for the official statement regarding Indian Premier League (IPL). The tournament was scheduled to start on 29th March 2020 but the COVID-19 outbreak delayed its start to 15th April.
With India lockdown till 14th April, the delayed start of the lucrative tournament also looks unlikely. “The BCCI is concerned and sensitive about all its stakeholders, and public health in general, and it is taking all necessary steps to ensure that, all people related to IPL including fans have a safe cricketing experience” - a report stated.
BCCI is prioritizing the health of the players and the fans, therefore, it is still not in a position to give IPL a green signal. The board of cricket is also taking guidelines from the Indian sports ministry.
