Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg has likened Virat Kohli’s style of play to the legendary Ricky Ponting. In an interactive Q/A session on Twitter, Hogg was asked about his thoughts of the batting styles of the current ‘Fab Four’ of cricket.
Drawing parallels between the playing styles of the existing generation of cricketers with the old lot, Hogg opined that Kohli was probably as aggressive in his strokeplay as Ponting was in his heydays. The fact that Kohli’s captaincy has brought tremendous success to the Indian side just like Ponting’s leadership in Australia did, lends credibility to Hogg’s assessment.
Interestingly, Hogg also felt New Zealand’s Kane Williamson had some resemblance to Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar while Steve Smith’s astronomical levels of consistency were reminiscent of Sir Donald Bradman.
