Former Pakistan cricketer Atiq-uz-Zaman has been approached by Cayman Islands which is an overseas British territory. It is understood that he has been offered to coach the cricket team of Cayman Islands. Moreover, the authorities also want to see the domestic veteran of Pakistan looking after their cricket matters as the head of cricket development.
The 44-year old is yet to accept the offer as negotiation process was affected due to the outbreak of COVID-19 which has brought cricketing world to a standstill position. However, it is likely that Atiq will be joining them from September 2020 or January 2021.
He applied for the job from a proper channel and got shortlisted. Northamptonshire County interviewed him since they are partners of Cayman Cricket Board. While the process included two interviews, the Karachi born was selected and recommended by Northamptonshire on the basis of first interview. It is important to note that Cayman Islands play ICC T20 cricket and currently are placed on the 45th spot of the rankings.
