Former Indian opening batsman Gautam Gambhir made a marvelous contribution to his side’s 2011 World Cup win by smashing a well-crafted 97 in the final against Sri Lanka. However, Gambhir’s stylish innings has largely been overlooked by the cricketing masses over the years as MS Dhoni’s exquisite World Cup-winning hit is more prominently imprinted in the memories of fans.
Recently, on the ninth anniversary of India’s iconic World Cup triumph, Gambhir was irked by a post from a cricket website that underscored Dhoni’s delightful strike. Gambhir criticized the media’s obsession over the individual excellence of Dhoni and claimed reiterated the point of a whole team playing their role in ensuring the moment of glory.
The tweet depicts Gambhir’s displeasure over the fact that Dhoni often gets excessive accolades for leading India to their second World Cup victory. The southpaw retired from all forms of cricket in December 2018 and is now an elected MP from his hometown Delhi.
