Back in 2018, India landed in Australia with massive hopes of making history. An Australian team that was devoid of the aggression of David Warner and class of Steve Smith battled India hard in the four-match Test series. Eventually, Indian quality overcame the Aussies to give the men in blue a remarkable victory in their Test history.
Recently, former Pakistan paceman Waqar Younis reflected on that epic encounter by saying that the absence of veteran batters David Warner and Steve Smith was a key factor in India’s Test series victory. He cleared that he doesn’t want to take any credit away from India, but insisted that the yellow team going through a turmoil favored the Indian unit and they capitalized on the opportunity.
It is important to note that the aforementioned two batsmen were out of the International arena because of their role in the ball-tampering saga – an episode which also saw the installation of wicket-keeper batsman Tim Paine as the new leader of the Australian side.
