Pakistan’s Test side was diminished with the untimely exodus of Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir ahead of the Australia tour, where they subsequently suffered a humiliating whitewash. Reflecting on the harrowing defeats, Pakistan bowling coach Waqar Younis communicated his disappointment on the abrupt departure of Amir and Wahab when the team required their experience.
Contrary to Waqar’s viewpoint and the general opinion held by the masses, Pakistan’s Test skipper Azhar Ali claimed that the pace bowling duo’s withdrawal actually paved the way for other youngsters to perform. He highlighted Shaheen Afridi’s rise as the spearhead of the fast bowling attack.
“Wahab and Amir have played a lot of Test cricket for Pakistan in the past but I think after their absence, we got the opportunity to try out young bowlers and they performed. I am pretty satisfied with Shaheen, who has taken a leading role in the bowling attack,” he said in the video conference.
