Michael Clarke's statement regarding sledging Virat Kohli was not appreciated by the Australian cricketers who played the Test series against India in 2018-19. Clarke gave a controversial statement and said, “Everybody knows how powerful India is in regard to the financial part of the game, internationally or domestically with the IPL”.
Australian Test captain Tim Paine fired back at Clarke and dismissed his statement by saying that sledging Virat could backfire because they knew he will come back even stronger. Now Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins has also joined his captain in negating Clarke’s statement. Cummins feels that it was the ball-tampering incident that prompted the Australian side to be more careful about their on-field behavior.
"I think probably a bigger factor was six months before leading into that Indian series the media and everyone commentating on the Aussie cricket team were pretty clear in their direction in the way they wanted the Aussies team to go and that was playing a little bit less aggressively out on the field," Cummins
"I'd say that would have been a bigger factor than trying to win or lose friends out on the cricket field. But you never know, that might have been a factor for some players."
