Former England captain Nasser Hussain has thrown the weight behind Indian cricketing great MS Dhoni to make a comeback to the international arena. Dhoni has not played a competitive match, either domestic or international, since his appearance in India’s defeat to New Zealand in the ICC World Cup last year.
However, Nasser believes Dhoni has a lot to offer to the Indian team despite the prevalent rhetoric surrounding his batting inefficiencies of late. Speculation is rife that Dhoni might retire given the uncertainty regarding the future of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and future fixtures but Nasser says the legendary keeper-batsman needs to be given another chance.
"Don't push Dhoni into retirement too early. In the end, only Dhoni knows his mental state, in the end selectors select and players turn up when asked to. I do believe that certain individuals should not just retire into the sunset without some kind of farewell,” Nasser said.
