The forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was meant to serve as a tool to assess the performance of the former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. However, the outbreak of COVID-19, which has hit more than 200 countries, has raised serious questions regarding the scheduling of the tournament.
Reviewing all this, ex Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir reflected on the comeback chances of the wicket-keeper batsman into the national team. The cricketer-turned politician is of the opinion that if IPL doesn’t happen then it would be really hard to select Dhoni as the senior pro hasn’t played any cricketer for the last 18 months or so.
In fact, he touted Lokesh Rahul as an apt replacement of the Dhoni. Gambhir believes that Rahul has provided a lot of balance to the blue team after donning the keeper’s gloves. He admitted that the 27-year old cricketer cannot beat Dhoni in keeping, but highlighted his elite batting shows of recent past to urge the authorities regarding persisting with Rahul as the wicket-keeper of the side.
