Throughout the course of cricketing history, we have witnessed many unique records. One such record emerged when Pakistan defeated South Africa in an ODI game without dismissing any of their two openers. This saw the boys in green becoming the only team in history to achieve this feat.
In a tournament in Sharjah, Pakistan won the toss and batted first – a decision that saw them crumbling under the pressure to score only a total of 168 runs. South Africa, seeing a modest target, was full of confidence to take the boys in green down.
However, the prowess of Pakistan’s pace bowling proved too much for the rainbow nation as they went on to lose the contest by 67 runs. In this game, opening batsman Gary Kirsten was retired hurt because of a back spasm. On the other hand, Herschelle Gibbs scored an unbeaten half-century, but no one was able to partner him to take the South African team over the line.
In fact, the 46-year old also looked back at the game and revealed that Shoaib Akhtar was bowling really fast which dismantled South Africa. It is to be noted that the speedster claimed 3 wickets while giving away only 9 runs.
