The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been postponed till further notice owing to the coronavirus pandemic, which continues to wreak havoc on the sporting schedule. With doubts over the feasibility of hosting the IPL this year, Sri Lanka (SLC) has offered to stage the tournament in the island nation at a later date.
"It looks like Sri Lanka will be clear of the coronavirus before India. If so, we can host the tournament here. We will be writing to the Indian cricket board soon," SLC president Shammi Silva told reporters in Colombo.
It is pertinent to note here that the IPL has taken place outside host country India on two occasions in the past. The 2009 edition of the league was fully staged in South Africa while a portion of the 2014 season took place in the UAE. Both of these events clashed with the multi-phase Indian general elections.
