Nadeem Omar admits not having Umar Akmal was a huge setback

Quetta Gladiators owner Nadeem Omar has made a bold statement on Umar Akmal, claiming that his absence was a major blow to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise during their campaign in the fifth season.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) provisionally suspended Umar right before the start of PSL 5, ruling him out of the competition. He now faces a ban ranging from a six-month suspension to a lifetime ban for failing to report corrupt approaches immediately.

“He [Umar Akmal] is one of the finest middle-order batsmen in Pakistan and it was a major loss for our side when he was suspended hours before the start of PSL 5. I would say that it damaged 30 percent [of the] strength of our team,” Nadeem stated.

Umar has a glittering PSL record and Nadeem’s claim certainly has a lot of weight attached to it as the Gladiators were forced to call in Anwar Ali as a last-minute replacement, disrupting the balance of the team.
