Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has become one of the vital cogs of his side’s lineup with his brilliant reverse swinging skills affording him a lethal outlook. Shami, who made his international debut in 2013, initially struggled for consistency but is now considered to be one of India’s leading pacers.
Recently, the cricketer revealed how legendary swing bowler Wasim Akram shaped his career during his stint at the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Indian Premier League (IPL). Shami was doing an Instagram live session with Manoj Tiwary where he shared how Akram’s presence in the KKR coaching staff helped hone his talent.
"I watched Wasim Akram all my life on television, but with KKR, I had the chance to learn from him. For the initial days, I was not even able to talk to him. Wasim Bhai came up to me then, and he initiated the conversation with me and he started telling me things about bowling. He read me very fast, he realized what I am all about, I learned a lot from him,” Shami said.
