Kaif reveals how he proved Ganguly wrong in famous Natwest win

India’s iconic triumph over England in the 2002 Natwest Series final is cherished as one of the most memorable victories. The then-record chase of the steep target of 326 was made possible by a stunning stand between two youngsters Mohammad Kaif and Yuvraj Singh, who thrashed the England bowlers all over the park.

The two stitched a breezy partnership at a time when it seemed that India would be unable to reach the target and helped India defeat the hosts. Recently, Yuvraj and Kaif revisited the sweet win in an Instagram live session and reflected upon the message sent from the dressing room by then-skipper Sourav Ganguly.

Kaif revealed that Ganguly had been shouting from the pavilion at him to take singles and put Yuvraj back on strike to smack the boundaries. However, Kaif took it upon himself to strike a massive six the next delivery and as a result silenced his captain. Kaif is reported to have exclaimed ‘Hum bhi khelne aaye hain!’ (I have also come to play!) soon after his meaty blow.
