Saqlain advocates for Ashwin's inclusion in shorter formats

Pakistan spin wizard Saqlain Mushtaq is baffled by the continuous exclusion of premier Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin from the limited-overs formats. Ashwin, a regular in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has not been a part of India’s white-ball setup since 2017, though he is a permanent fixture of the Test lineup.

Focusing on the impact of Ashwin in the conventional red-ball format, Saqlain believed that the veteran office had the skills to excel in ODIs and T20Is as well. Saqlain opined that the Indian selectors were committing an error by overlooking such an experienced campaigner in the shorter formats.

"He knows how to get a batsman out in the five-day game, which is much tougher than limited-overs cricket. Anyone can do the containment job but someone who knows how to take wickets can contain also. He knows both. How can you keep him out? You have to back your best players,” Saqlain said in a video uploaded on his YouTube channel.
