Legendary cricketer Javed Miandad has expressed his remorse at the fate of Umar Akmal, who has been handed a three-year ban by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for failing to report corrupt approaches. Miandad lamented the fact that Umar’s talent had gone to waste after years of disciplinary issues.
He revealed that he constantly advised Umar to adopt a more disciplined lifestyle and eschew his callous attitude towards the sport but the 29-year-old did not pay heed to his suggestions. Miandad commented that Umar had destroyed his career by involving himself in needless controversies.
"I had told Umar Akmal before to mend his ways and to not indulge in such activities. Today all we can do is regret this, but the fact is that he was a very talented player, Allah gave him everything, but he did not take care of himself,” Miandad said in a video uploaded on his YouTube channel.
