Amid the outbreak of COVID-19 disturbing the whole cricketing world, this year’s ANZ New Zealand Cricket Awards were presented electronically. In this event, the star performers of the 2019-20 season in different fields of cricket were recognized for their contribution to the New Zealand Cricket.
Former New Zealand wicket-keeper and veteran commentator Ian Smith was honored with the Bert Sutcliffe Medal for his ‘outstanding services to cricket’. While the 63-year old is commentating on the game from some time, his emotional commentary stint when New Zealand threw India out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament made rounds on social media.
Reflecting on the achievement, Ian was extremely grateful as he got emotional to join the list of people who received this prestigious award. Not only that, but Smith also added that he had a great journey and wouldn’t trade it for a second. Moreover, he went on to dedicate this award to his wife Louise who has been a source of great support for him.
