Former Pakistani off-spinner Saeed Ajmal revealed that the umpiring error during the semi-final of the 2011 Cricket World Cup still baffles him. Remember, Ajmal trapped Sachin Tendulkar in front and was given out LBW by the on-field umpire. On taking the review, the ball showed more spin than it was expected, and the decision was overturned.
Talking to a news channel Ajmal said, “It was straight in front and I was 100 percent sure he was out. Shahid Afridi, Kamran, Wahab, and other players asked me was he (Tendulkar) out and I told them he is gone. I never got a chance to bowl to him in a Test so whenever I played against him in white-ball cricket, I always wanted to do my best.”
Tendulkar went on to score a crucial 85 runs and India won that semi-final game. Ajmal admitted that it was more hurting that Pakistan could not win that game because of big umpiring blunder.
