The morning of May 1st, 2020 brought forward good news for the Australian Cricket as the yellow jersey has reclaimed top spot in Test and T20I rankings. As a result, India had to leave their Test dominancy which was obtained in October 2016. Moreover, Pakistan made way for Australia after remaining No. 1 for 27 months. England, however, kept their ODI cricket’s top rank intact.
Without a shadow of doubt, this was a result of Australia’s top run in these formats in the last 12 months or so. It is important to note that the latest update of the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings assigned a 100% weight to matches played since May 2019 an only 50% to the contests of the previous two years.
Just like all the players, head coach of Australia, Justin Langer was delighted to see his top bossing the two of three formats of the game. He expressed pride in this achievement but added the top-ranking should also express in the values and process whenever Australia takes on a cricketing field.
