Andre Russell played one of the most destructive innings in T20 history last year when he smashed the Royal Challengers Bangalore into submission by scoring a brisk 13-ball 48 during a steep chase. Russell arrived at the crease with the Kolkata Knight Riders requiring an improbable task of 52 runs in 16 balls in that fateful encounter.
He was then spurred into a six-hitting frenzy by opposing skipper Virat Kohli’s animated celebration following the wicket of Dinesh Karthik. Russell claimed to have been triggered by Kohli’s aggressive antics as he set out to teach RCB a lesson.
"Dinesh Karthik got one boundary or two then he got out. He hit the ball and I think Virat Kohli took the catch. Virat Kohli turned to Venky (Venky Mysore KKR CEO) and where all the wives and KKR supporters were and he is like 'come on'. When I looked up, like something triggered in my head like, hell no this is not over,” Russell recalled.
