Mohammad Asif’s cricketing journey will forever remain one of the most tragic stories of unfulfilled potential in the sport. Once at the top of his game, rattling opposition batsmen with his stupendous control over extravagant swing, Asif’s glorious career came crashing down when he was convicted for his involvement in the spot-fixing scandal in 2010.
Despite his unforgivable offenses, Asif continues to be remembered by many as one of the smartest pacers to play the game. He is often rated highly by several batting greats with Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara also singing praises of Asif’s skillful bowling mastery.
"I would rate Mohammad Asif as the best fast bowler I ever faced. If Asif has the new ball, then it doesn't matter whether there's grass on the pitch or it's a flat deck – Asif would make every ball talk. You go for a drive against him and you end up asking yourself why did you do that?" Sangakkara said.
