The fate of the Indian Premier League (IPL) continues to be obscured in uncertainty as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not given a specific date for its return or any hint towards its possible cancellation.
The tournament, which was expected to begin on March 29 has been pushed back to an indefinite date due to the coronavirus pandemic. Amidst these troubling times, the United Arab Emirates has reportedly shown its interest to host the IPL.
“The UAE has offered to host the IPL if we want them to. But right now when there is no international travel, there is no question of taking a call on that,” BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal said in a recent interview.
The UAE has hosted the IPL in the past when it staged a number of matches in the 2014 edition of the lucrative league due to its dates clashing with the Indian Elections.
