Umar Akmal, the Pakistani batsman, was once considered the future of the country’s batting. However, countless discipline issues made him a problematic child. As if it wasn’t enough, he landed himself in hot waters by not reporting approaches by fixers to the anti-corruption unit. As a result, the aggressive batsman was smashed with a 3-year ban from all forms of cricket.
Recently, former Pakistan coach, Mickey Arthur shared his views on the aggressive batsman. He believes that Pakistan should move ahead and shouldn’t pick Umar Akmal for the national team when he returns from his ban. The 51-year old added that he gave a lot of opportunities to Umar during his tenure, but he failed to capitalize.
Not only that, but Mickey also revealed that he gave Umar three chances to pass the fitness test for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 event, which ended in vain. For this reason, Umar was sent back home. Extending the discussion, he added that he would call it a poor decision if Pakistan decides to rely on Umar Akmal in the future.
