Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Babar Azam as the ODI captain of the Pakistan team during a press conference. Babar Azam, who is the current captain of the T20I team, will now hold the duties of the ODI team as well. Since the sacking of Sarfraz Ahmed, Pakistan’s ODI captain slot was vacant due to the lack of ODI games in the schedule.
Talking in the press conference, Pakistan’s head coach Misbah-ul-Haq congratulated the current skippers of Pakistan Azhar Ali and Babar Azam.
"I want to congratulate Azhar Ali and Babar Azam for getting captaincy extensions, this is absolutely the right decision as they also require certainty and clarity on their future roles. I am sure they will now start looking to the future and will start planning so that they can build sides that can perform at the expected levels."- head coach and national selector Misbah ul Haq said.
Sarfraz Ahmad was terminated from Pakistan’s captaincy position after the green team lost badly to Sri Lanka in the home T20I series. Following this, Babar was named the T20I captain of the side. However, now Babar will take on the responsibility of dual-captaincy roles in the two formats.
