AB de Villiers has described Virat Kohli as very similar to Roger Federer in terms of his talent while he likened Steve Smith to another tennis great Rafael Nadal. De Villiers made these points during an interaction with Pommie Mbangwa where he was asked to pick a favourite between the two.
Delving into details over what sets the two apart, de Villiers claimed that Kohli was definitely the more naturally gifted player as he struck the ball harder. Meanwhile, he stated that Smith was temperamentally very strong and kept scoring heaps of runs despite not looking very fashionable in his strokeplay.
"It's a difficult one, but Virat is definitely the more natural ball-striker, there's no doubt about that. In tennis terms, I'd say he's more like a (Roger) Federer whereas Smith is like a (Rafael) Nadal. Smith is mentally very strong and figures out a way of scoring runs - he doesn't look natural, but he ends up writing records and doing amazing things at the crease” - de Villiers said.
