The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently released its central contract list for the 2020/21 season. A total of 18 players were rewarded for their fine performances over the past year but the absence of Fawad Alam in the list paints a grim picture.
The domestic giant has once again been overlooked by the selectors despite his unparalleled consistency in the longer version of the game. Fawad was Sindh’s leading run-scorer in the previous season of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, leading to a recall to the national squad.
However, despite being a member of Pakistan’s Test lineup for the series against Sri Lanka and the Rawalpindi encounter against Bangladesh, Fawad was not given a chance. He is yet to represent Pakistan in Tests since his last appearance in 2009. He has managed to play only three Tests for Pakistan with his highest score of 168 coming on debut against Sri Lanka.
